I’ve never flown internationally with layovers so I have a couple of questions…
Are we going to have to get our luggage and transfer it for each flight or do they do that for us?
And how bad is our jet lag going to be? How many hours ahead is Jeffreys Bay?
My question is about luggage. you told us we’re allowed to bring two suitcases. one for us. one for ministry, right?
So ……these standards are ok if we fly internationally too? And we don’t have to pay extra for the luggage, right?
Okay here we go…
1. In most cases you will not have to transfer your bags since you check them in with your destination as a the tag on your luggage, but the few times I have flown out of the country I did have to find my luggage and recheck it. If that does happen it will happen we transfer from the washington flight to the johannesburg flight (and vise versa). The reason we may have to recheck our bags is because you have to go through international security and customs (trust me this is not fun or a time to goof off and get lost, I almost my plane).
2. General rule of thumb is that when you travel east it’s easier to get jet lag than it is to go west. They say for every time zone you cross it may take up a day to completely recover from. So if you are someone that is effected by jet lap easily (everyone reacts differently or not at all) it may take the first week to get adjusted. The way back shouldn’t be that bad, although I have had friends who are good when they get somewhere and are affected when they get back. Who knows, I mean it’s not like it’s natural to travel that far in that little of time.
3. Yes the standards are the same if you travel international. Up to 50 lbs. (I suggest having it weight less because scales could be off) and yes you can and probably be fined anywhere from $5-$50 per lbs. Yikes!
4. Nope you don’t have to pay extra for your luggage, it is already included in the ticket price. Remember though one over head bag, one briefcase or backpack, and two 50 lbs suitcases (one for yourself and one for ministry supplies).
5. I’m not a doctor or flight attendant, but I have been flying since I was 5 and usually take 2 or 3 flights a year. I have a little experience and that can be best thing to have.
PEACE!!!!!!
I have a question about bringing a pillow on the plane…are we allowed to carry one on? or does it have to be in our luggage? I know that when I flew last summer to Mexico we were allowed to hold onto it on our flight but is it the same flying internationally??
I’m pretty sure you can bring your own pillow, but then you cants bring like a purse or a small bag for under your chair. So I would bring like a back pack and a pillow. They’ll give you blanket if you need it. Also I highly recommend bringing your own head phones b/c they should have on plane videos and games.
What day/time do I book a ticket for Ashley to return from ATL?
Well, I just checked timeanddate.com and it says that Johannesburg is 7 hours ahead of where I am, which is Wisconsin, Central Time Zone.
